Making a life on the Azores — together.

A free, not-for-profit home base, built by new islanders, for new islanders — across the nine islands, in your language.

Settling in is as much about knowing who to trust and finding your people as it is about paperwork — yet that’s scattered across separate social media channels and chat groups: unsearchable, rarely in your language, and with no real way to know who and what is genuine. Azores Expats gathers it into one calm, trusted home. It’s made by people who’ve made these islands home, like you — and it grows with what you add: share a contact, a tip or a guide, and you’ll get as much back. A bridge that always credits the local people and businesses it rests on — not a bubble.

Find your way around

Everything lives on its own page — here's where to go.

A community project — not a service

Started and run by new islanders on the islands — and it grows with what we each put in.

Made by residents

Built and run by new islanders who live here. Not-for-profit — no investors, no ads, nothing sold.

A two-way street

It’s not something you just consume — it’s a commons you feed. Add a business, write a guide, answer a question.

Share, and you get back

The more people contribute, the more useful it becomes — for you, and for the next newcomer after you.

Who it's for — and what you get

It's for new islanders who've made the islands home — not tourists. Renting or owning, just arrived or years in, on any budget — it's free, and you're welcome. Reading is open to everyone; joining the members' community is for fellow incomers, which keeps reviews and recommendations genuinely peer-to-peer.

Open to everyone

  • Read the Guides, News, Weather and Getting-Around pages
  • Browse the Event Calendar and come to open public events
  • All in your language — Portuguese, English, German, French

No sign-up needed — feel free to look around.

Free when you join as a member

  • See the Directory of local businesses, honestly reviewed by members — know who to trust
  • Post and reply on the Community noticeboard — offers, needs, a shopping run, tools to borrow
  • Carry things between the islands and the mainland (members' flight exchange)
  • Meet around an interest, and start a hands-on project with collaborators
  • Find workshops & courses worth your time — posted and vouched for by members, taught by local pros or fellow members
  • Organise or RSVP to members' events and meet-ups — social or with a shared purpose — and message other members privately

Quiet here, lively out there. This isn’t about likes or endless threads — it’s about real encounters. The lively chat stays on social media; here you find people and make plans, and the real thing happens in person, face to face.

We're starting on São Miguel and growing island by island — and inside the community we all write in English, the one language we share, so no one's left out.
